Freshwater

Located in the wilds of Wyoming, the name Freshwater was chosen as a Western analogy to Christ. Just as He is the Living Water, and we must have Him to have eternal life, any desert dweller knows the importance of fresh water to life, both for self, and the nourishment of crops or livestock. By taking nourishment in God and His word, we strengthen our own relationship with Him, our faith, and the quality and abundance of our fruitfulness.

Our keystone verse is from Jeremiah, Chapter 17, Verse 8: "For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see whenSave heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit."

The fruit that we speak of is mentioned in Galatians 5:22
"22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."

And the heat could be anything we experience that might test our faith in God; trials and tribulations, relationships, anything that focuses our love and attention anywhere but on Him...

Fry Bread

One chilly (-20) February day I told my husband I felt like baking something but I didn't know what, and his suggestion was fry bread. He was describing a recipe video to me where two ladies were laughing so hard it was tough to actually get the ingredients, so I had to find that one and share it, just for fun. The recipe I used was one I found on Pinterest, that sounded very similar to the one he described.

Then he and my faithful furry helper went out to plow snow, but they joined me later and I have some photos of them helping :).

It's pretty simple, just flour, baking powder, salt, and water. Some recipes add oil or spices as well. I did check some other recipes to get an idea of time and temperature for air frying, but none of them were right, so I didn't credit them. Several said 350 degrees for 5 minutes, but we ended up needing to go hotter and longer. We cooked them for the 350 degrees for 5 minutes, then we raised the temperature to 450 and cooked it for another 5. If I were to do it again I would go hotter faster, and then probably a little less time. I also might use a little bit of non stick spray on the dough before putting it in, just to give it a little bit of that golden. Air frying tastes just as good, but you don't get the same crisp look with a little browning.

We served up this delicious bread with eggs (cheesy eggs with veggies, of course!).

Things You Save in a Fire by Katherine Center

I have no idea why, but until I started reading this book I honestly thought it was really about things you save in a fire, you know, important things, priorities, a self-help type book. In fact, I put off reading it for a long time, because for some reason that was the impression I had. People told me it was a great book, but didn't really give any details about it, and that was just what I thought for some reason. Have I mentioned that I often don't read the blurbs on the back cover?

This book was wonderful. It made me feel mushy and tingly inside, angry and upset, sad, and oh so very happy. I laughed, I awwwwed, and I enjoyed it very much. I will absolutely read another by this author. Bring it on!

Girl, Wash Your Face! by Rachel Hollis

I thought I'd written a post on this book ages ago, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I'm going to tell you I probably won't be able to share a lot of details about the book because I read it last February, but I do remember it being one I enjoyed.

This book was recommended by one of my daughters, though my youngest two both read and liked it. In fact, my youngest reminded me that she owns it and I could borrow it if I needed any refreshers to write this post.

Each chapter actually starts with a lie that the author used to believe about herself, and the myth busting truth she has found.

I love that she is completely unashamed, willing to lay it all on the table, willing to be completely honest, to share her embarrassing tales, and to laugh at herself. She is unabashedly real, and willing to get down to the nitty gritty. She reminds us that we have to be honest with ourselves in order to combat mistruths.

I've written down some of my favorite quotes from within the pages, but you really need to go read it for yourself.

And, if you're looking for a good story to read, be sure to check out Party Girl, her first book in The Girls Series. I've only read the first one so far, but it was an entertaining read where I laughed, cried, and fumed at some of the characters, so it gave me "all the feels".

Pastor Paul Page May 2021

Have you lost your hope? Have you given up? What’s next?

Revelations begins with letters to the seven churches. In Revelation 3, Jesus Himself is speaking to a church, a family of born again believers in Christ. He points out that they are useless to Him in their current state, that their wishy-washiness and lack of commitment are a waste.

Revelation 3:14-2014 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

We must not stop preaching the Word of God, even when we’re told to stop. If you want to have peace in your heart you have to know that you will never stop standing up for God’s word.

Romans 1:16 16For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

1.      Repent

2 Chronicles 7:1414 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

2.      Pray – for ourselves and our hearts to follow God’s Word and God’s will, for our nation, for our leaders, and for all others.

1 Timothy 2:1-4 1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

3.      Be a living sacrifice, show the world Jesus through our love and our actions. The world is watching to see what we do and say.

Romans 12:1-212 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
