Matthew 11:1-5 1And it came to pass, when Jesus
had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach
and to preach in their cities.2 Now when John had heard
in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,3 And
said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?4 Jesus
answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do
hear and see:5 The blind receive their sight, and the
lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up,
and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
John the Baptist was at a
tough time in his life. He was in prison shortly before his execution, and he
was struggling. He was sitting in prison getting ready to die and he was confused.
He sent out some disciples to double check and make sure this really was the
Savior.
John baptized Jesus in
Matthew 3. He saw the heavens open, he saw the dove descend, he heard God say that
this was His beloved son. And still, even after seeing and hearing all of this,
John struggled with his faith.
We have problems and
difficulties in life, and we always will. Just because we accepted Christ doesn’t
mean everything is rosy and will be easy.
The first thing we must
remember is that Christ is real. He gave us salvation. If we’ve trusted Him as
our Savior we have a guarantee that our salvation can’t be taken away.
John 10:27-3027 My sheep hear my
voice, and I know them, and they follow me:28 And I give unto
them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck
them out of my hand.29 My Father, which gave them me, is
greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.30 I
and my Father are one.
He also promises us that someday
He will return.
Hebrews 9:2828 So
Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for
him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
He has also promised He will never leave us nor forsake us.
Deuteronomy 31:66 Be
strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail
thee, nor forsake thee.
We absolutely need to
trust Him, to turn everything over to Him, lay it down before Him, and just let
Him have control.
