Building Your House Upon the Rock
Matthew 7:24-29 24 Therefore whosoever
heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise
man, which built his house upon a rock:25 And the rain
descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house;
and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.26 And every
one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened
unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:27 And
the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that
house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.28 And it came
to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his
doctrine: 29 For
he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
At my grandparent’s old ranch, there was a wall, part of a house,
that was still standing. This wall had probably been built 100 years ago. You
could see where people had picked at it, but it was still standing, because it
had been built from solid stone.
There are two kinds of people. Those
who build their house upon the rock, and those who don’t. We are to hear Jesus’
words and no one else’s. He made it clear that He is “The Way, the Truth, and the
Life”, no one else.
When you say Jesus is my rock and my
foundation it isn’t just words. We need to be doers of the word and not hearers
only. When we look into the mirror, the Word of God, it reflects onto us and
lets us see what we are doing right and what we need to change. If you looked
into a mirror and noticed your face was dirty and your hair was a mess, wouldn’t
you comb your hair and wash your face? The Word of God gives us that
opportunity, to change our lives to meet His will.
