Matthew 14:22-33 22 And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.23 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.24 But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?32 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.
Sometimes in our own lives He uses circumstances to teach us , to show us He is God, to show us His Word. Sometimes we forget God is on our side and He is with us. The Word of God has always been the same and will always be, it never changes. In the beginning of the story Jesus went up on the mountain to pray, to spend time with His Father. He knew where the disciples were and what was happening. Jesus will never walk away or leave us. During those times of silence we need to seek Him, to ask Him if there is something we should be doing.
Colossians 1 reminds us that Jesus is God 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: He is always able to overcome the storm.
Sometimes we think just because God’s in the boat we won’t have storms. We will have storms, he tells us that. He doesn’t say “If you walk through the fire”, He says “When you walk through the fire.” (Isaiah 43:2 2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.)Regardless of the storm, HE IS IN CONTROL.
We tend to panic, to freak out, to give up—the Bible tells us to get alone with God. Get alone with God, spend more time with Him, put good things in your mind. Jesus took time to get alone with God and was calm in the midst of the storm.
Matthew 6:6 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
Philippians 4:7-9 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
