A wedding was celebrated at our
house today. You might consider it a bit
unconventional, the wedding of a pregnant cat to a stuffed tiger, but my girls
felt that she shouldn’t be alone. You
see, our beloved and wonderful male cat, Lancelot, was hit by a car and killed
a few weeks ago.
Our previously aloof and independent Guinevere became a loving and
affectionate cat, constantly choosing to be close to us instead of wandering
off on her own as she once had.
Within a short time, it became evident that there was more than one
reason Guinevere’s temperament had changed.
She’s going to be a mommy!
And as her time approaches, the girls began to fret that she wasn’t
taking good enough care of herself, that she needed someone to look out for
her, that she would be lonely. Thus the
ultimate motive behind today’s celebration dreamed up by a trio of small,
adorable people.
The dictionary definition of marriage states: “the social institution under which a man and womanestablish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc.”
But what I find so much more
important, is God’s design for marriage.
He made woman so that man would have a companion, so that he would not
be alone.
Genesis 2:18-24
And
the Lord God said,
It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for
him.
19 And out of
the ground the Lord God formed
every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam
to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living
creature, that was the name thereof.
20 And Adam
gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the
field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
21 And the Lord God
caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his
ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the
rib, which the Lord God had
taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam
said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called
Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24 Therefore
shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife:
and they shall be one flesh.
and Matthew 19:4-6
4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which
made them at the beginning made them male and female,
5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and
shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God
hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
Men are to love their wives, to protect them, and take care of them
and their children, which is ultimately why my girls felt that Guinevere needed
a husband, even if he was just a representation.
There is someone special who will love and protect us, take care of
us and provide for us even more than an earthly husband, and not just through
the time constraints of human life, but for eternity.
Ephesians
5:22-25
22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as
unto the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as
Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let
the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
Yes. Christ gave Himself for
the church. Does that mean that He gave
Himself for a fancy building downtown, or an old leaning building in the middle
of an oilfield? No. Christ gave Himself for the people. He loves us, and He wants to be our Lord,
Protector, Comforter, Friend, and so much more.
He wants to be our Savior.
Christ is the one true love we have who will never leave us,
forsake us, or even disappoint us. He is
everything, and He wants to be your everything.
If you don’t know Him today, take the time to invite Him into your
heart.
If you do know Him, make sure that you take the time and make the time to sit down and spend with Him. There is no greater friend than Jesus, and there is no greater love than that He has for us.
If you do know Him, make sure that you take the time and make the time to sit down and spend with Him. There is no greater friend than Jesus, and there is no greater love than that He has for us.

Lovely picture of marriage! And so cute that your daughters took what they knew from scripture and applied it to your cat. I'm sure they're excited to meet the kittens!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting Life Lessons! Appreciate your insightful comment. I can definitely relate to becoming impatient when things don't happen in my time frame. And you're absolutely right that the 'waiting' periods are times we can use to prepare ourselves for when God opens the door of opportunity! Thanks again for stopping by! God bless!
Thank you for coming by and for your comment! And yes, they are very excited about meeting the babies!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your post, and I am sure I will be dropping by more often! :)
